This past weekend, (October 29th-30th), Club Sailing Members Joe Kurta (fresh.), Marc Greene (fresh.), Nick Smart (jr.), Nicole Kievit (soph.), and Alex Heid (sr.) departed Allendale to participate in the annual Cedarfest Regatta, hosted by Michigan State University. Lakers competed against 9 teams from across the Region, including Michigan Tech, University of Michigan, Western Michigan, Ohio University, University of Iowa, and Hope College, among others. Club Sailing scored 6th of 9 fleets, which is well considering the multitude of boat malfunctions that occurred throughout the weekend. High winds coupled with aging vessels caused difficulties for B feet crew Smart and Heid/Keivit, as well as many other sailors on the water.
The next regatta Club Sailing @ GVSU will be competing in is the MCSA Fall Championship, hosted at our home club, Macatawa Bay Yacht Club in Macatawa, Michigan. During November 12-13th, 15 plus expected teams from across the region, including GVSU Lakers, will compete to win the 2016 MCSA Fall Championship Title.
The 2016 Fall season has been one of the most successful in Club Sailing history. As the season draws to a close, Club Sailing @ GVSU is honored to have higher membership than ever before, and have competed in 5 regattas. The team remains open to sailors of all skill levels, and anyone with an interest is highly encouraged to attend our informational meetings.
