During the weekend of May 13-14th Club Sailing Members Nick Smart (sr), Elliot Lee (sr), Jacob Weesies (soph), Sam Colvin (soph), Jordan Parisian (sr), and Joseph Kurta (soph) participated in the first annual Lake Erie Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta (LEIOR), hosted by the Ohio State University Sailing Team and the University of Toledo Sailing Team. This regatta was held using Tartan 10's, "T10", at the Edgewater Yacht Club in Cleveland, Ohio. Winds were light and variable throughout this event testing our sailors knowledge of sail trim and weight placement.
The Lakers competed against 8 teams from across the nation, including University of Toledo, Michigan State, University of South Florida, Michigan Technological University, among others. With over 50 college students sailing on the sailing one-design TARTAN 10, this event was full of competition. The Lakers did consistently well, scoring 4th, 5th, 7th, 5th, 5th, 3rd, and 3rd. The Lakers were able to pull through at the end and score a 4th overall at this event.
