On the weekend of September 30th and October 1st 2017, Grand Valley Club Sailing Team Members, Nichole Kievit '19, Antionette Martin '19, Ryan Higgins '20, and Chris Nelson '18, traveled to University of Illinois, to compete in the U of I Regatta, hosted by University of Illinois.
Club Sailing Members did fair, scoring 6st among 8 other team boats, including schools from across the Midwest, including Baldwin-Wallace University, Miami University, among others. To view complete scores, see collegesailing.org official scores and weekend summery here- http://scores.collegesailing.org/f17/u-of-i-regatta/
Club Sailing members continue to represent Grand Valley throughout the school year and during the summer months.
According to regatta records, the wind was strong, 10-14 from the ENE. Warm temperatures in the 70s also make it very pleasant for sailing.
Club Sailing at GVSU is always accepting new members, experienced or not experienced. Anyone who has an interest in the team is encouraged to find out more during Campus Life Night or attend any of our meetings- every other Tuesday in Kirkhof room 1104. Club Sailing is very inexpensive to join compared to other club sports at Grand Valley, with annual dues for most members being $100 per year. All training and equipment is provided.
